You start realizing your age and how you might not be so spry anymore when you have to chase after a 2 year old. I guess this is why it is suggested women have kids young and why younger women are so much more fertile because younger women have the energy to keep up. No, it was not Memorial day or 4th of July nor did we get a time machine and go forward to Labor day. The need for the patriotic dress is that I resort to mom life and Bree had no clean shorts or summer clothes to wear. I had to do laundry (it's not the act of doing laundry I dislike it is putting everything away). It was too hot for her to wear pants. I may torture myself by putting on pants and sweaters in the summer humid heat but I will not put my child through that!
I am getting major fall vibes lately. The leaves on our tree are beginning to fall. The air over the past couple days have become a little cooler and more crisp. I am starting to get in the mood for pumpkin spice everything, but tend to hold off until September. To me, Labor Day is the unofficial start of fall so I will give summer it's due recognition until then. By this time I am ready for the change. In Chicago we have had a brutal hot summer and high humidity which has made it uncomfortable to enjoy and in the winter we have too cold of weather where we don't want to leave our house and go through that torture. Spring tends to get lost a bit. The weather doesn't know how to stay constant. It either drops into winter temps or gets hot like summer. It almost seems like a nonexistent season here. Fall is something we actually get and it is just beautiful. Your summer skirts and dresses don't have to go to the wayside to accommodate the falling temps. They just have to be restyled to work better and keep you comfy and warm. Add a scarf, some booties, a jacket or a cardigan and those fun bright summer pieces can still transition well into fall. Many of my pieces I am wearing are old. The skirt was from last Christmas season that I bought on clearance. The jacket I bought in NYC almost a decade ago and the boots are from Jane.com but similar brown boots are easy to come by. My tank is still available and part of a 2/$10 deal at Target and it has been my absolute favorite. It is a great material and a looser fit so has been great to tuck into those skirts.
Happy Fall shopping!
