When I used to live in Chicago, I used to have a special love for Valentine's Day. Winters in the Midwest are cold, barren, and felt never ending. Valentine's Day was a little something to look forward to. It is a time to celebrate the one's you love, maybe give or receive a little token of that love, and decorate everything in pink and red. It may not be a recognized holiday but it is still a call for celebration.
Now that I am here in the south I have been noticing another token of Valentine's Day, the Camelia. Coming from a place that has almost no living plant in sight, barren trees, dead or sleeping flowers, and grass that doesn't grow, it is nice to see plants blooming in the heart of winter. These flowers are popping up in the colors of Valentine's Day, red and pink popping up on bushes all over the place. It has been a beautiful surprise for this northern girl.
This Valentine's Day I will be dressing inspired by these little floral beauties. It is so easy for me to dress for this holiday because of my love for pink. It's like my closet was made for today. Today, I am leaving the overwhelming amount of hearts behind and going for a look that will work for everyday. Give me all the colors of the camelias because next week when Valentine's Day is over I will still want to dress in the reds, the pinks, and the whites.
