This is our first summer down here in the south, and we weren't really sure what to expect. What we ended up with was almost daily heat and humidity. It made those beach days even more enjoyable but made everyday life during the week a bit difficult, especially while I am pregnant and into the third trimester. I am starting to feel ready for fall but am not feeling the mood like I used to. Usually around this time I start feeling the fall feel in the air, get anxious for Pumpkin spice everything, and start shopping for my fall boots and sweaters. While it is still 90 degrees out, it is hard to get the fall feels. I knew what to expect up in the Chicago area...well kinda. Usually I know what to expect but Chicago weather is often unpredictable. Last year it felt like summer ended and went straight into winter. Weather is more predictable in the south but since we are still fresh transplants I don't know what fall will be like. Will the air be cool and crisp like up north? Will I be able to enjoy my fall clothes or will I be boiling up from the sun and humidity on the daily? I won't complain though. Part of the reason why we came down here was to avoid the bitter cold of winter, have more outdoor weather time, and be near the water and beaches. So far this has been the case.
The end of season is at times bittersweet. We are saying goodbye to what the season brings us whether it is the memories, foliage, weather, emotions, etc that the season holds. What I do love about the end of the season is the sales and clearance items that come with it. I find that the stores are putting their new season items up earlier and earlier (really, do we need to see pumpkins in July??), but the nice thing is that there is still much of the season left to enjoy those lower priced items. Recently I went into Target to pick up an online order I place and ended up walking out with some end of season clearance items.
Floral Tufted Doormat; Hyacinth Fringe Vase; Faux Stem Philodendron leaf; Faux Dahlia stem
We have a small entryway in our house. It really is just a small hallway that connects to the kitchen, front room, and bedrooms. I have been wanting to add some color to the entry but can't do anything too big. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do but figured when I saw it, I would know. I finally found it! A rug is such a simple way to add color to any room and a rug at the front door is so perfect for people to wipe off their shoes and not trail in that dirt, sand, and rain. This adorable Opalhouse doormat is on clearance for about $9! The colors are so pretty and it is a bit scratchy so it helps to clear off those shoes real well! I have also added some other adorable, colorful doormat finds below.
I also found this super cute Opalhouse vase. I thought the rope design was just darling and that fringe just adds a little extra! I am all about the extra. The vase was tall enough to put on the ground but I still felt it needed a bit more so I put it on top of an old crate I had laying around. Can we say extra shelf? Not only will the crate give me extra storage but it brings the vase and flowers up to eye level. I put a few faux peach dahlias and a nice big green philodendron leaf as an accent. The colors just matched my doormat so perfectly! The picture above the vase was actually a sign we had at our wedding for our guests to sign. We didn't want some book that would get put in a shelf or in a drawer to rarely be noticed but something we could look back over and over again. We get to remember every time we come into our house!
Floral blue laundry basket with bamboo rim
What might be most surprising about this basket is that it is actually considered a laundry basket. I know, right?! How darling is it as a laundry basket! The price tag of only $13.49 is also pretty amazing as well! It would really spruce up any room or closet, however I chose to use it as a storage basket. With a toddler and a baby on the way it has become difficult to hide the clutter. I have been getting storage containers and baskets to not only help organize things like a play area, but also to help put those random clutter things inside. It has been very challenging to constantly clean up after Bree and has posed an even greater challenge to expect Bree to be the one to do the cleaning.
My front room is filled with florals, floral accents, and blue and white patterned finds. This was the perfect fit! I actually find that it would be a better storage basket as it does not seem sturdy enough to carry anything too heavy. It is collapsible. There is a matching large hamper and an ironing board cover. The rest of these items are too cute to pass up. The ironing board cover is only $15.29! I think I may need to pick this cutie up too!
Feeling inspired? I know I am! Next up to find: new pillows for my couch. I can't wait to keep shopping all these sales. I love that feeling of adding something new to the home. It makes things less boring, makes me feel a bit of rejuvenation and peace. Please share if you have found any new home updates.
