So when I originally started my weight loss journey, I was having 2 protein smoothies a day in place of meals. I loaded it up with fruits and greens and the weight just dropped off. I knew I couldn't live like this forever so I then started with only having it once a day, for lunch, because it is easy to carry around and drink while I am driving around for work. I would have small healthy snacks available and pretty much I felt full enough and well. I definitely felt great drinking my smoothies but the past few months I have been lazy about it and decided to get back on track. I put as much healthy stuff as I can in these smoothies and I really do feel good. It is almost like drinking a liquid salad but a sweet salad. I decided to share with you the recipes on use. I usually have a couple chocolate go to recipes and a couple vanilla ones as well. This one is a chocolate recipe.
This is the ingredients I use for this smoothie.
1 scoop of collagen powder
1 a little cacao powder. The more you use the more chocolatey the taste. I usually just sprinkle a bit
1-2 scoops of protein powder. Read the nutrition label. This brand EAS is 2 scoops but some are 1
About 1 cup of spinach. I don't necessarily measure this out exactly but eyeball it
About a cup of nondairy milk. I have used almond milk but I really like coconutmilk. I find it a bit creamier and sweeter for a smoothie. You can add a bit more than 1 cup if you feel it is too thick.
I will say I don't have an affinity to any particular brand of protein powder. I get whatever is prices well because I know they can get expensive. I haven't had any problems with EAS but 2 scoops seems a bit much. I have also used Pure Protein that I have found at Walmart or the Market Pantry version. I'm sure people more in tune with health and fitness will yell at me. I have tried the plant proteins but the ones I have tried did not taste well to me, even in a smoothie. I also love collagen in smoothies. I have tried to take it in just water but it has a beefy taste that I don't care for. When it is blended in the smoothie I don't taste it. Collagen is great for hair and nails and I find when I take it my muscles heal better and feel less sore after my workouts. Vital Proteins is apparently the best but it is pricey so I have yet tried. This brand I have not had any issues with and I find very reasonable at iherb.com. I also have had a superfood blend that I bought from Walmart I used to put in my smoothies but I have not been able to find it lately. It was about $13 for a big bag that lasts for a while but I have seen other options at Target and health food strores.
I throw everything into the blender and liquefy it. I usually run it about 20 seconds to make sure everything is all blended.
This is the finished product. Obviously it is green because of the spinach. I prefer spinach because it has a very minimal taste and blends nicely. You can use whatever greens you want. I have used kale as well but it is a bit crunchier when it is raw so I feel it can be a little chunky, but again it is all a personal preference.
Comment below any feedback on my smoothie. I will continue to share more recipes as I have been inspired to test some new stuff out. Also, feel free to comment any of your own smoothie recipes you use.
