I actually realized that I do not have a black blazer in my closet. I think alot of that is because I primarily wear a navy blue blazer. It may not be seen as traditional or neutral like a black blazer, but I'm here to share all the reasons why a blue blazer might be something you need to add into your wardrobe. It's time to think of blue as a new neutral.
1. It works with just about every color
Typically, neutrals are thought of as black, white, grey, brown, and other earth tones. Neutral colors are those colors that compliment other colors. Navy works with so many other colors, in fact I challenge you to tell me a color it does NOT work with.
Fashion is becoming more colorful and experimental. It is more appropriate than ever to combine different patterns and colors. For those of us who want to have fun with colors but still keep things classic and simple, adding navy is a great way to do that.
Some of my favorite ways to pair navy is with: blush pink, neutrals (gray, white, browns, black), yellow, green, red, and lighter shades of blue.
2. It adds a bit of casual to any outfit.
This does not mean that a navy blazer cannot be professional and polished. It most certainly can. Black has an aesthetic of professionalism. You can wear it with jeans just like any blazer but it will still look very polished. Plus black is so traditional and sometimes not considered as "fun".
It is easy to throw a navy blazer on just like you would with any sweater and have things look casual You can also wear it over your favorite dress or as a pantsuit and be able to rock that work meeting.
3. It is also chic and classic.
Navy has such a softness to it compared to a plain black blazer. A black blazer has a way of looking a bit rocker-chic. Paired with a tee and a distressed denim, it can look a bit harder. Same look but paired with a navy blazer has a softer edge. It is feminine, but it is not girly. It is perfect for any type of style.
When I think of navy blazer I think Rory Gilmore circa Chilton years. Ok maybe college prep uniform isn't the look you want to go for. Me neither. A navy blazer is a Brooks Brothers-esque classic piece. It is something that won't go out of style.
4. It is flattering.
What I love most about blue is that it looks good on pretty much anyone. If you are worried if a blue blazer will look good on you, don't worry. It will. Wear it with dresses, jeans, skirts, shorts, or whatever you want. It is multiversatile.
