9/14/2020 0 Comments My fall capsule piecesThe weather this week is looking more and more like fall. I see nothing but 80s and even the 70s coming up and I am welcoming the little break in heat. I am ready to start breaking out my sweaters and fall gear. One thing that I have been doing is making sure I get a nice capsule wardrobe. These are pieces that will work in a multitude of ways with a multitude of looks. I have been wanting to keep pieces that will work all season, classic pieces that will work after this season and for many years. These are pieces that I can dress up or dress down, will work for work or on the weekends. You don't need a large wardrobe to get you through the season. A few key pieces and you can wear them in a multitude of ways and will stick with you for the long haul. Tuckernuck dress I JCrew crewneck sweater I Everlane jeans I JCrew silk blend sweater I JCrew plaid blazer I Margaux ballet flats I Talbots corduroy pants I JCrew sweater blazer I JCrew cashmere tee I Talbots cardigan I JCrew skirt I Sam Edelman trench Chambray dress A cute chambray dress is a great option for any time of the year but I really love this Tuckernuck dress because of the cute details. It has the most adorable ruffle collar and cute little puff sleeves. It also comes in a black and navy as well. It is a great dress to wear in the beginning of fall when it is still warm out but will transition well into the cooler months. I wore this dress recently HERE with a pair of ballet flats but you can easily swap it out for a pair of boots or booties. You can even add a pair of tights for some extra warmth. You can also add cute cardigan over for some extra warmth. This sweater blazer or trench coat are great options. Crewneck sweater A basic crewneck sweater is a very versatile piece to get you through the fall and even the winter. This JCrew sweater is made of a very soft merino wool. It is extremely comfortable. You can wear it with a pair of jeans or even a cute skirt. Add a pair of loafers or ballet flats for a feminine chic look. I really love all the colors these sweaters come in. I recently ordered the heather olive color but loving the different pinks as well! Comfortable denim I really start increasing my denim game in the fall. To me, fall is about comfort and I love a comfortable pair of jeans to wear with my sweaters. I have proclaimed my love for Everlane in a prior post (HERE). I will be wearing my Everlane cheeky straight jeans well into the fall. They come in both ankle length and full length (I have both). They have a range of blues from light to dark that will mix and match well with any of your fall wear. I find these to be extremely comfortable jeans. I love that they are high waisted and fit great even for the curves. I am definitely not stick straight. I have hips and a butt. I typically wear a size 29-30 depending on the brand these 30s fit perfectly all over. I will be tucking all my cute sweaters into these. Silk blend sweater This silk blend sweater is sooooo good that I bought it in two different colors. This sweater is so incredibly soft and comfortable. I've paired it with skirts, with jeans, worn it alone or under jackets. It is the kind of sweater you will continue grabbing for all season. Plaid blazer I've recently been showing off a plaid blazer both HERE and HERE. I have been obsessed with a plaid blazer for fall. I've worn it with a skirt or with jeans. It adds that classic, polished look to any outfit. I found this great JCrew plaid blazer. I love the earth tone colors that I gravitate towards in fall. There's something about a plaid blazer that adds a boyish charm that a strong, confident woman. Wear it with a pair of loafers to keep the boyish charm, ballet flats for a girly touch, or even a pair of knee high boots with some skinny pants. It is a great option to keep you warm when you don't need or want a heavy coat. Ballet flats Ballet flats are a comfortable shoe for any time of the year. What I have been loving for the fall are those earth tone colors. I have been wearing these brown Margaux ballet flats with so many fall outfits such as HERE, HERE, and HERE. I like to keep them neutral for the fall between the brown shown here, a black, navy, and I also just purchase an olive green. They are great with anything: a skirt, dress, or jeans. It adds a cute little touch to those blazers or oversized sweaters. Corduroy pants Corduroy si a great fabric for the cold. It adds some softness and warmth. These Talbots corduroy pants are a bit thinner making them the perfect option for fall and the transitional weather. These are super comfortable and comes in so many adorable colors. They will be great with a cute button down, sweater, or long sleeve tee. You can see how I styled them recently HERE. Sweater blazer I've been seeing a sweater blazer around for a very long time. I recently pulled the trigger and purchased one. It has the comfort of a regular sweater cardigan but has the professional and pulled together look of a blazer. You can wear this sweater blazer any way that you would a regular blazer for some extra comfort or any way you would wear a cardigan to look a bit more chic. Perfect with jeans or chinos and a button down shirt and even great with a simple dress. It's a great, comfortable, versatile piece. Cashmere tee I recently bought a JCrew cashmere tee that was on sale and am so glad I did. These are so soft and cozy. I love the shirt on it's own because it is so warm but layer it under the sweater blazer or plaid blazer. Wear it with a skirt, jeans, or corduroy pants. Consider this a great cold weather basic. Wear it any way you would wear a regular tee but this will bring that extra bit of warmth and cozy. Simple cardigan ![]() I love to keep cardigans in a plethora of colors in my wardrobe. They are a classic staple piece. I like to wear them over dresses, especially those summer dresses to make them more cold weather appropriate. I like to wear them over tees and tanks, with jeans, pants, or even buttoned up and tucked into a skirt. It is a closet staple. I recently got a Talbots charming cardigan. I love the little extra piping to add a bit of chicness and little pop of color. Talbots has been one of my go-to brands. There stuff is great quality and always fits so beautifully. Slip skirt I always love a great skirt. It is only of my most worn items outside of dresses. This JCrew slip skirt is fall perfect. I love the way it drapes. With my curves, I was concerned the fabric would look bad but it fits and looks so great. Whether you dress it up with a button down, add a simple sweater like I wore HERE with the silk blend sweater, or wear under an oversized sweater, it is a great versatile skirt to match with all the capsule pieces. Match it with the ballet flats or add a cute boot. I have the rust colored skirt because it is just so cute for fall. Match it with any of the earth toned colors like red or burgundy, browns, navy, or even greens. They come in a rainbow and plethora of colors that are all fall perfect Trench coat A trench coat is a quintessential staple. I have been loving the look of the trench for ages. It has been seen on the chicest of vintage era movie stars. It turns any outfit into the classiest of looks. I especially love a trench coat because it is warm but not heavy. The falls down here are pretty mild and still warm and the winters are very mild with an average temperature of around 60 degrees. A trench is a great item that will keep me warm but overburden me with too heavy of a coat. What I love about this Sam Edelman trench coat is that it is water repellant. It is a super chic option for the rainy weather (hello southern storm season!). I have a similar one seen HERE and it is super comfortable and a great option to keep warm. A trench coat is definitely an investment piece. It is worth the investment because it will last you the long haul. As stated previously, trench coats have been in style for ages and it will stay in season. If you are going to splurge on one item this season, a trench coat is one area to do that.
