I love October and in particular fall. It brings a sense of peace, comfort, and calmness. Clothes become more comfortable. The smells are more comforting with the pumpkin, leaves, and cinnamon. The weather becomes chillier calling for some comfort foods, warm coffees or teas, cozying with blankets and sweaters. It's when I start getting my motivation to start baking.
With all of this, I also start doing some tweaks to my makeup routine. Instead of the corals, pinks, and bright colors I tend to wear in the spring and summer, in the fall I start wearing more browns, reds, and go a little darker and bold.
Today I am sharing my favorite beauty product purchases for the season. This is what I will be wearing for most of October and even into November because fall doesn't just stop after Halloween!!
Sally Hansen Good. Kind. Pure. nail polish
You may have noticed lately that I have been moving toward cleaner beauty products. Nail care is included in that. I found that Sally Hansen has a line of natural, plant based nail products that I had to try.
I really love this color for fall. It is Cherry Amore and it is bold but will match well with all those earth toned colors. I have found it hard to find a nail polish that lasts longer than a week unless you wear a gel based. This has lasted about a week but it is still on my toes and has been for weeks now. When you are a busy mom with kids it can be hard to keep polish on very long anyways. I normally focus on the pedicures for that reason anyways.
The line comes in 30 different shades. With it being under $7, I will have to pick up more of these colors.
Pacifica eye shadow palette
This Pacifica eye shadow palette has been one I have been wearing regularly on the days I do wear makeup. It is another clean beauty product and have found that this brand's eye shadows do not cause itchiness and irritation like other eyeshadows I have tried. It has great neutral colors that are light but buildable. For the fall I tend to use some of the darker colors in the crease to make a bolder, smokier look whereas in the summer/spring I use the softer pinks for just a tint of color.
There are some palettes I have purchased where I only use a few select colors. I have actually used all the colors of this palette and just love them all. They are very complementary.
Biossance lip balm
I have used several of Biossance products and love them all. I've noticed a great difference in my skin with these clean products. I have been using their Squalane + Rose Vegan lip balm and love it. Once the weather gets colder I notice my lips is one of the first places to get drier. I wear this every night and often during the day and it does a great job keeping my lips soft and moisturized and will be using it through winter.
Lipsticks: MAC, NYX, and RMS
There are three different lipsticks I go to in the fall depending on my makeup look. I often do more of a bold eye than lip so my lip color usually stays more neutral. If I do want to go a bit bolder and add more of a red color, I will reach for this NYX Butter lipstick in ripe berry. I love the lipstick because it is so buttery soft and smooth and easy to apply. I am not a professional so reds are often the color I have the most trouble applying (also why I don't wear red as much).
This MAC lipstick in velvet teddy has been a color I have been using about a year. It is a deep beige color but has a hint of pink to it. As with most of MAC lipsticks, it goes on smoothly and has a rich, pigmented color. I love this color when I want to enhance the brown tones in my makeup.
RMS Wild With Desire lipsticks have been my new favorite. I have 3 of the colors and love how they look. They are super flattering, last for a while, are clean, and go on so beautifully. For fall I have been using Magic Hour which is a mauvy nude. I love this color with a bolder eye due to it being a nice nude. It has a little shine so you can wear it alone or wear some gloss over it.
Before putting on a lipstick, I use Fresh Lip Wonder Drops. I just put a small dollop on my finger and dab it on my lips. It helps to exfoliate and soften lips to add a nice base for the lipsticks. I won't say that it is a primer that makes your lipstick last longer. It helps to make your lips soft and smoothe for the lipstick. Especially in the cold months when lips get dry, cracked, or peeling, this can help nicely.
In the search for my favorite clean mascara, I came across Ilia Limitless Lash mascara and am hooked. This might be my favorite mascara overall. I wanted a clean option because alot of eye makeup makes my eyes itchy and irritated. This does not have that effect on me.
This mascara really makes a marked difference in my lashes. It lasts all day but comes off easily at night with my makeup remover. I find alot of long lasting mascaras require some extra elbow grease to come off but not this one.
I usually ad 2-3 coats on my lashes. it builds nicely without clumping but makes your lashes look long and healthy looking.
Chanel No 5
I have had this perfume for a while now. I don't wear perfume everyday. I don't usually wear it to my full time job because I work in hospice. Many patients who have breathing difficulty can't handle too strong of scents.
When I want to feel a bit dressy and classy I reach for my Chanel No 5. It is just a classic and loved by the likes of Marilyn Monroe. Need I say more? With holiday events coming up on the horizon, this is the scent I will reach for first.
