5/29/2020 0 Comments Clean makeup products I am loving
I have completely done an overhaul on my makeup and it ifeels great! I have gone clean with my products and I cleaned out my old, unused, "dirty" makeup products. A bit of spring cleaning feels great. To be able to let go of the old and make room for the new is what spring always symbolizes. I usually do this with a big purge in clothes, but I this time I decided to purge out my makeup. Besides, using old and expired makeup is just not good for your skin and a bit gross.
I notice that as I get older my skin changes with it. Some of these changes are good and some are a sign that I need an adjustment to my routine. My skin is less oily than my younger year. It still breaks out at times, but I notice it is normally due to hormonal changes or a sensitivity. My skin, however, is becoming more sensitive to the products I use. I used to be able to wear a face full of make, eyes full of a rich color and can wear any brand that I wanted. I normally went for the ones that were on sale or the cheapest. Now my eyes get itchy within a couple hours if I am not using the right product. I'm not interested in adding red, bloodshot eyes to my look. I am just feeling uncomfortable with heavy makeup, and now that I live in the south I can't get away with the same makeup I did up north. The climate is different. It is hotter and humid and that cakey makeup will just melt off my face. Gross. I felt it time for a change. I have been going clean in my diet for a few months in order to focus on my health and decided to apply this concept to my skin and makeup routine. Immediately I noticed a difference! My skin is starting to glow. It is looking clear and feeling healthy and happy. My makeup is looking better than ever, and trust me I am no expert in putting on makeup. I don't even find myself that good. I'm usually rushed and it can show. I'm telling you since I have been using the clean products my makeup is starting to look more natural. I am looking tan and glowing with just a little bit of bronzer (even my husband asked if I went tanning). My breakouts have been minimal and my eyes are not itchy and red anymore. I sometimes forget I am wearing makeup at all. My skin just feels so much more comfortable and yet my makeup routine is still quick and seamless. Today I want to share some of my favorite companies and products for clean makeup. Honest Beauty
Honest Beauty is one of the first companies that I knew about that were clean. They may not be the first but they were the first that really blasted the idea of clean beauty. I love that Honest Beauty offers affordable products and can be found easily at Target, Amazon, or even on their own website. Their products are quality products. And come on, Jessica Alba just looks fabulous! My favorite products are the CC Cream, Creme blush, and eyeliner.
I typically prefer a CC cream rather than a foundation because it is lighter feeling on my skin and does a good job of masking the uneven tone and complexion and even mask some of the small breakouts. These are the problem areas of my skin. If you have heavy breakouts it may not be a great option for you alone but would work well underneath a foundation to help provide some extra coverage. I really love the Honest Beauty CC cream not only for its affordable price point but it just works well. My skin looks healthy and clear when I wear it. It is nice and light for this summer heat, has an SPF to protect against the damaging sun rays and also protects agains the blue light (think phone and computer). I use the color Fair and it blends well with my skin. I feel like my skin is healthier after every use. Historically I have used a powder blush mainly because I was intimidated by cream. I tried the Honest Beauty Creme Cheek blush and am in LOVE! A little goes a long way and blends nicely for a natural looking color. If you want a richer color it is buildable. I purchased the color Coral Peach for the summer and it adds the perfect coral hue. Coral has been my favorite summer makeup color for a few years now. I just love the way it looks on that sunkissed skin. The product lasts all day, feels nice and light, and makes my skin have a dewy glow. I have been eyeing the rose and peony pink shades as well. At less than $13 a pop, it is a great affordable option! The product I struggle with the most is eyeliner. I am really not that great at applying and need something easy to apply. This eyeliner is perfect plus I don't have to worry about putting any kind of toxic ingredients so close to my eye. It is easy to apply a thin line or a thick line and is long lasting! Plus it is less than $10! Bye bye red, itchy eyes!
100% Pure
100% Pure may be my new obsession! If you look at the ingredient list of their makeup, you will understand why. Their makeup products are pigmented with fruit! Fruit! That can't get any more natural than fruit. I appreciate being able to read an ingredient list and knowing what it is. If an ingredient is safe enough to ingest INTO my body, then it has to be safe enough to put ON my body. Plus, the products actually work!
I recently bought the lip and cheek tint in cranberry. The product has a great pigmentation that blends well on my cheeks but also is the perfect shade of red for my lips. It gives a nice rosy glow. I don't wear too much red lipstick. I don't love how it applies and usually stick to more nude or pink lips, but this red is a game changer for me. It is more of a tint than a vibrant lipstick so if you want something noticeabley subtle, like I do, then this is for you! It is actually pigmented with cranberries (hence, the name) and smells delish! There is also a pretty peach or pink grapefruit color as well. I have also found their makeup brushes to be a must have. They are cruelty free and made with synthetic fibers. I recently purchased their powder brush and this baby is so super soft. In fact I was so in love that I ended up just purchasing their kabuki brush as well for liquid makeup application. Amazon
I am aware that Amazon itself is not a clean beauty company, but I have found so many amazing clean beauty products. They do require a bit of research and a LOT of navigating. What I have come up with, though, are some companies and products that not only work great but are super affordable. One company I actually discovered while researching clean beauty products was Undone Beauty. They are an affordable cosmetic company focused on offering clean and cruetly free products. I purchased their water bronzer stick. One thing that I love about this product is that it is water based so it is nice and gentle and streak free compared to other liquid bronzers. Another thing that I like is that it is light but builable. It does not go on too heavy and you can make it as dark as you need. It goes on so smoothly. Plus it comes in 4 different shades depending on your complexion. My shade is baked since I have cool undertones. I add a bit around my hairline, my jaw line, and the sides of my nose for a little hint of color and contouring. It makes such a natural looking, sunkissed color. I have also been eyeing their eyeshadow palette in the color Soft and the winged eyeshadow brush. With everything being under $20, it is a perfect price point to try out some new. clean products.
Speaking of eyeshadow, this Pacifica eyeshadow palette was another Amazon find. They are not strictly Amazon. You can find them at Ulta, Target, or their own website. I was hesitant to order an eyeshadow palette due to me getting red, itchy eyes but this was a game changer for me. I get absolutely zero irritation when I use this product. The colors are soft but buildable and is so pretty. I have the pink nudes which is a great, versatile palette. I do love the other palettes beachy punk and crystal matrix. Great price points too!
Credo Beauty
If you do not know about Credo Beauty, it is like the super haven for all things clean beauty. They go through an intense screening process of the companies and products that are sold on their site so you know that they are good and clean. I love that you can trust the products that they sell without needing to spend time doing your own research. They are the first place I go to in order to find any kind of clean product.
Since I have developed this red, itchy eye sensitivity it felt natural to switch to a clean mascara. I was concerned that they would not work as well or last as long. In comes in Ilia Limitless Lash Mascara. This mascara works better than pretty much any other mascara I have tried that was not clean. It goes on so nicely without any clumps or flakes. It lasts all day and makes my lashes look so long and luxurious yet natural. Even if someone wanted a mascara that worked and did not care about the ingredient list, I would still say this is the best. It is just that good. Plus my sensitive eyes have been happy. My go to lip products have been RMS Beauty Wild With Desire lipstick and Innerbeauty Project Glaze lip oil. This RMS lipstick goes on so smoothe with such a rich, pigmented color and great hydration. Some lipsticks could be so drying but these lipsticks do not have that effect. There are 15 beautiful colors but the ones I own are Vogue Rose and Unbridled Passion. I often use the lip oil over my lipstick to add the perfect amount of shine. The lip oil is also perfect on its own with just a sweet hint of red. Plus it smells and tastes like a candy apple. Yum! I've already mentioned the CC Cream is my go-to for skin coverage but for some extra concealing action, I have been loving the PYT All + Nothing concealer stick. I have always prefered a concealer stick for imperfections coverage over a liquid beause it is great for spot coverage on the go. This one not only covers well but has a little brush on the opposite end for blending. Lastly, to start the whole look off you need a good primer and my go-to has been Saint Cosmetics Angel Face Perfecting primer. It has a great cooling effect that just feels so good and refreshing and adds a flawless finish to your makeup.

Some may feel that all this being "clean" is just a hoax or a fad or just unnecessary. Maybe the "dirty" ingredients won't actually add any extra risk for cancer or any other chronic illness. Honestly, I don't want to take the chance. I feel and notice a definite difference since going clean. The more naturally derived ingredients have made my skin look and feel so much more radient, healthy, and happy. My thought is what you put on your body is just as important as what you put in. I intend on keep trying to eat clean so I intend on keep wearing clean as well.
